you must have heard of “missed connections“; a great illustration blog, where you find the infamous magical moments (but sadly missed) of New Yorker’s come to life with sophie blackall‘s whimsical drawings… well, we have been fans for a long time and when my sweet friend “cagla” came up with the idea of making our own version with “friend’s istanbul missed connection stories” just for once, well; of course we jumped right in and had lots of fun with it… you can find the stories and cagla’s original story about it all at her blog! and below are the illustrations I did for her article… hope that the owners of these moments have thought the drawings do them justice after all…

me and a few friends traveled to edirne; to the once upon a time “capitol of ottoman empire” this weekend to celebrate “hidrellez”! it is celebrated as the day, on which prophets Hızır (al-khidr) and Ilyas (elijah) met on the earth… it starts on the night of May 5th and falls on May 6th… and happily welcomes the arrival of spring… so did we… we both got to send our wishes down the “arda” river… which we all scribbled on paper the day before&tied on a rose-tree for one night and then picked back up for the ceremony, which took place at 5am : )… and visit this “beautiful & once upon a time capitol of ottoman empire “city with a great guide… after all an “edirne” trip is highly recommended! and below a mix of pics to convince you I guess…
from the afternoon, when we visited the gypsies celebrating… (and this was only the very calm background, making me think of a beloved movie “black cat&white cat” …)

this little lady was with us visiting the katre hotel in alacati and enjoying the wild flower arrangement lovingly put together by the stylish owner :)
as of yet she doesn’t have a name… we think she is from another planet but appreciates the flora of our little world…
she might also be a terrific (but a little shy) belly dancer… hence the beaded skirt….
