rumisu is a joint project of us, two sisters, Deniz and Pinar, who passionately love fashion, illustration, design and handcrafted anything with a sense of style and humor. Our goal is to let our love and curiosity for beauty be a conduit for philanthropy and create a line of ethically manufactured design goods that give back to their community of origin.
“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” Rumi
In our blog we write about how rumisu will grow up and mature, as well as things that inspire us to create, things that make us happy and motivate us to go ahead.
I am Pinar Yegin, from Istanbul, Turkey. I lived in the USA for 10 years where I studied economics at Harvard College, then finance at Wharton Business School, and consulted for Bain & Co. I then admitted to myself that I felt happiest within creative and dynamic environments surrounded by art & design not to mention immediate family members. So I moved to Istanbul. I have since been working with the family business in textiles. rumisu marks a new chapter in my life that fills me with hope and enthusiasm.
I am Deniz Yegin, from Istanbul, Turkey. I lived in New York City for six years where I studied fashion design at Pratt Institute and worked in the industry with several independent high-end designers. I entered the young fashion designers contest of Turkey in 2005, won the first prize and a scholarship for my masters degree in advanced fashion design at Polimoda in Florence, Italy. I have since designed for Yegi Nim; a small knitwear brand and retail project of our own, Beymen; a Turkish high-end, luxury brand and for various free-lance textile and illustration projects. Opening now a new chapter with rumisu co-creating with my sister only that what we absolutely adore and only what we would love to see, show and share…
