back home….

from the Urfa and Batman workshops in the Southeastern Turkey and enjoying some quiet time…

the purpose of the workshops that we organized for the ladies of the region with UNDP – GAP – SIDA support was to develop handmade design & gift objects that targeted an urban customer

basically, we had to use the materials that could be easily found in the area and come up with easily sellable cuteness…

and transform the women’s time into money (=economic freedom…a very rare and magical power in that area, especially when given to the smart women)

among the many many different objects we designed (and the ladies created) were these cute bookmarkers (aka..bookworms) made of leftover scraps of various textile companies…

It was a pleasure to work with so many very talented and eager women…now I am pushing my brain further and asking myself how can I help them market their time and creations…. if you have any ideas please, do share :)

yuvaya donduk..urfa viransehir ve batman atolye calismalari sonrasi kafamizi toplayip sakin sakin dusunmeye basladik…

UNDP – SIDA – GAP projesi destegi ile gerceklestirilen bu atolye calismalarinin amaci, bolge kadinina buyuksehir pazarlarina kolaylikla sunulup satilabilecek urunler yaptirmak ve bunlarin nasil yapilacagini ogretmek…

kadinin emegini ekonomik bagimsizliga donusturebilmek…

Very cute! Opening an Etsy shop for their wares seems an obvious way of marketing their wares. It is a lot of work, but it would go.

      Thank you Eshter-

Yes, I thought of Etsy as well, but language barriers are a significant issue. I wish there was a Turkish equivalent of etsy :(
We are thinking of collaborating with one of the turkish e-commerce websites to carry the handmade items made by the ladies on a constant basis. This way they might have a more constant revenue stream rather than the one of “kermes” type places that they sell at at moment.
Thank you so much for your input!
